PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
REGULATION OF OPERATING DEPARTMENT PRACTITIONERS (13 June 1999)
Motion Details
That this House notes the vital work carried out by operating department practitioners within the National Health Service, regrets the failure of the previous government to implement the recommendations of the Bevan Report on the introduction of a statutory registration scheme for ODPs; is mindful that such a registration scheme has been supported by the Association of Operating Department Practitioners, the Royal College of Surgeons in England, the Royal College of Anaesthetists and the National Association of Theatre Nurses; believes that regulation would ensure high standards of professional conduct and the saftey of patients; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to introduce a statutory registration scheme of ODPs as soon as possible.
