PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
FUTURE OF THE TOTE (19 May 1999)

Motion Details

That this House notes the Government's decision to accept the recommendations of the Tote Review Steering Group to sell the Tote; recognises the importance of the Tote as a source of income for racing; notes with disappointment that the Steering Group called neither for the Tote to be transferred to racing not for specific safeguards to protect the income stream that the Tote brings to the sport; and calls upon the Government to consider transfer of the Tote to the British Horseracing Board, the representative and accountable governing authority of the racing industry, for a reasonable and affordable price.
