PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
DR ALEKSANDR NIKITIN (15 June 1997)

Motion Details

That this House notes with concern that the retired Soviet naval captain Dr Aleksandr Nikitin is still charged with high treason and espionage in Russia and is confined to the city of St. Petersburg; believes that Dr Nikitin did Russia and the rest of the world a great service in exposing the dreadful risks to human life and health arising from the failure of the former Soviet authorities to establish an effective programme for the management of nuclear waste and redundant reactors in the north of Russia; and calls on the Government, with its twin commitments to human rights and the environment to persuade the Russian authorities to drop the proceedings against Dr Nikitin.
