PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
CLOSURE OF MEMORY LANE CAKES, WARRINGTON (2 June 1997)
Motion Details
That this House recognises the efforts made by the workforce of Memory Lane, Warrington, to increase productivity and rationalise working arrangements such that the Warrington site management in early May of this year could applaud service levels in excess of 99 per cent., low complaint levels and an ability to innovate new products at higher selling prices which were recognised by the then owner, Grand Met Food, as enhancing the site reputation for providing consistently good quality at better than average value; further recognises that this increase in productivity has been made by a skilled local workforce which has demonstrated commitment and flexibility in order to ensure an effective future for the company in Warrington and security of employment for the 500 employees; notes that the new owner, Mr Richard Ashness, has announced on 27th May his intention to close the site at Warrington and transfer production elsewhere; and calls on Mr Ashness to reconsider his decision in view of the track record of achievement by the Warrington workforce.
