PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
IMPACT OF REGULATIONS ON COST OF CARE (24 October 1999)
Motion Details
That this House notes that proposed DTI regulations on the Regulation of the Private Recruitment Industry will increase the cost of care for elderly and disabled people; further notes that the cost of the most intensive home-care packages could rise by more than 60 per cent. if these regulations were introduced; further notes that any increase in the cost of home care will reduce the levels of home care provided, reducing independence and increasing the likelihood of admission to residential care homes; regrets the lack of co-ordination on this issue between the Departments of Trade and Industry and Health; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to reconsider the regulations and abandon any changes that result in an increase in the costs of care to the elderly and disabled.
