PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
ANGLIAN WATER DROUGHT ORDERS (3 November 1997)
Motion Details
That this House is alarmed by Anglian Water's application for drought orders to increase the amount of water taken from the River Ouse and River Nene; is concerned that several of the country's most important wetland sites could be damaged by such abstraction, including three internationally important sites for birds, the Ouse Washes, Nene Washes and The Wash, as well as thirteen sites of special scientific interest; is further alarmed by Anglian Water's failure to carry out any adequate assessment of the implications of these drought orders for wildlife or to look for ways to reduce demand and non-essential water use before applying for these drastic measures; and calls upon the Secretary of State to reject these proposals.
