PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
RECOMMENDED RETAIL PRICES AND INDEPENDENT RETAILERS (29 October 1997)
Motion Details
That this House notes the Monopolies and Mergers Commission recommendation to abolish recommended retail prices and the supply of retail goods through the Combined Independent Holdings organisation that exists to help independent retailers, often local family owned businesses, compete against the mainly out of town superstores and national chain stores, and urges the Government to reject recommendations that will result in the loss of independent local retailers with their often high standards of after care and personal service, thus reducing consumer choice.
