30TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE 1967 ABORTION ACT (27 October 1997)
Motion Details
That this House expresses its continued support for the Abortion Act 1967 as amended by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 1990 and notes that in the 30 years since the1967 Act received Royal Assent on 27th October almost five million women have been able to end unwanted pregnanices safety; further notes that recent opinion polls show majority public support for safe and legal abortion as permitted by this legislation; believes that this law has been of great benefit to women's health; and notes that restrictive abortion laws cause extreme misery and hardship and are damaging to the well-being of women and their families.
