PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
UXBRIDGE-CONSERVATIVE CANDIDATE (15 July 1997)

Motion Details

That this House views with grave concern the refusal of the Conservative Parliamentary candidate in the Uxbridge by-election to say where he stands on crucial issues which affect the people of Uxbridge, including whether he supports the ban on handguns, whether he supports the VAT on fuel increase introduced by the Tories which especially hit 12,653 Uxbridge pensioners, whether he supports the other 22 Tory tax rises, whether he still supports privatisation of the Post Office, whether he still supports the view that unelected peers should be able to block legislation passed by the elected House of Commons, whether he still supports Conservative policies on the NHS which resulted in 20,000 more managers and 50,000 less nurses, and whether he still supports Conservative education policies which have resulted in one in five local children being taught in a class of over 30; believes that Parliamentary democracy is strongest when those who aspire to join this House inform local people of their views on matters which affect them; and therefore advises the Leader of the Opposition to instruct the Conservative candidate to answer these questions without delay.
