PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
BREACHES OF SANCTIONS ON IRAQ (14 July 1997)

Motion Details

That this House is concerned by reports of sanctions-busting by Iraq in contravention of UN Resolutions; notes that the Kurdistan Democratic Party, led by Massoud Barzani, is believed to be making profits of at least US$1 million daily from illegal border trade in oil products and other illegal exports between Iraq and Turkey; believes that this trade militates against a peace accord between the two Kurdish parties; and deplores the fact that this illegal trade is being conducted in full view of United Nations monitors at the border crossing.
