PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
ALZHEIMER'S AWARENESS WEEK (3 July 1997)
Motion Details
That this House congratulates the Alzheimer's Disease Society on this year's Alzheimer's Awareness Week; welcomes publication of its report No Accounting for Health; notes with concern the report's findings that 48 per cent. of health authorities have not carried out an assessment of the needs of people with dementia in their area; notes that spending per person with dementia can range from ú600 to ú1,800 depending on the health authority in which they live but that 79 per cent. of health authorities are unable to identify the resources allocated to dementia services in 1997-98; further notes that No Accounting for Health begs serious questions about the accountability, transparency and equality of treatment provided by the health service; and urges the Government to introduce national standards to ensure equality of treatment, and take steps to ensure health authorities give greater priority to the planning and provision of dementia care.
