PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
CHINESE YEAR OF THE TIGER (14 January 1998)
Motion Details
That this House recognises the Year of the Tiger, commencing on 28th January 1998; notes with regret the continuing pressures on the world's tiger populations from illegal poaching and trade in tiger parts, particularly tiger bone; applauds the work of non-government organisations in highlighting this important issue as part of Year of the Tiger celebrations; congratulates the United Kingdom Government on its performance in tackling the illegal importation and sale of tiger bone; encourages European Union member states to enforce European Union Regulation EC 338/97 governing this importation, sale and purchase of endangered species as introduced on 1st June; and urges European Union member states to work to eradicate the importation, sale and purchase of tiger bone.
