PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
PAYMENTS TO PRISONERS OF WAR (8 December 1997)

Motion Details

That this House notes with concern the newspaper reports over the weekend of 29th-30th November that money which was due to be paid to British prisoners of war held in Japanese prisoner of war camps during the Second World War was held back by Swiss banks and never reached the intended recipients; in the light of these reports calls on the Minister to re-open consideration of the repayment to former prisoners of war of pay docked from their salaries while they were held in prisoner of war camps; and urges the Government to act fairly and reimburse the sums concerned to former prisoners of war.
