PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
CIVILIANS REMEMBERED CAMPAIGN (4 December 1997)
Motion Details
That this House recalls the Early Day Motions of 6th March 1996 and 14th May 1997, signed by 114 and 147 members respectively, supporting the objectives of the Civilians Remembered Campaign to honour the 60,595 British citizens who lost their lives from 1939 to 1945; is encouraged by the helpful oral Parliamentary answers given by successive Prime Ministers on 12th December 1995 and 5th November 1997; is concerned that the intention of the campaign to establish a fitting memorial centre and park is prejudiced by the current planning application for luxury apartments on the greater part of the site; and requests the Secretary of State to call in that application, to further consider the most appropriate use of the last central London Thameside site available for this unique civic enterprise.
