PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
FUTURE OF THE COASTGUARD SERVICE (1 December 1997)

Motion Details

That this House praises the skills, dedication and commitment of those coastguards who work for Her Majesty's Coastguard in delivering this vital emergency service; notes with concern the Government's intention to close the coastguard stations in Oban, Orkney, Liverpool and Tyne and co-locate the Portland and Solent operation rooms; and calls upon the Government to ensure that coastal safety is not compromised by any reduction in the coastguard service and that in the interest of maintaining safety; all interested organisations and honourable Members are consulted on the future operations of the coastguard service.
