PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
THE GAUL (13 November 1997)
Motion Details
That this House extends its sympathy to the relatives of the crew of the Hull trawler 'The Gaul' which vanished with all hands and without sending any Mayday signal in February 1974; notes its discovery recently on the seabed off the Norwegian coast by a television documentary team; and recognising the anguish caused by 23 years of uncertainty and grief, resolves to ensure that all possible steps are taken to reveal how 'The Gaul' sank, why the wreck has not been located until now, despite persistent rumours of its whereabouts, and the extent of the involvement of the Hull trawler fleet in espionage and counter-espionage in strategically vital areas.
