PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
WATER RESOURCES AND HOUSING (12 November 1997)
Motion Details
That this House is concerned that the current system for allocating land for housing does not take adequate account of water resources, that the 4.4 million new homes planned in England and Wales will place an additional burden on already overstretched water resources, that a high proportion of these houses are planned for the driest parts of the country such as the South East and East Anglia and that water companies are not statutorily consulted in the land use planning process; and calls on the Secretary of State to draw up the necessary guidance so that local authorities have to take account of water resources and consult with water companies when drawing up development plans and considering planning proposals.
