PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
FOOD STANDARDS AGENCY (11 November 1997)
Motion Details
That this House in the light of concern about misleading food labelling, welcomes the proposed establishment of a Food Standards Agency with a remit to assure public health in all matters of national food policy including the microbiological, chemical and nutritional aspects of food, novel food and processes such as genetic modification, as well as food standards and labelling, and believes that, with a role in developing policy, drafting legislation and public education, and reporting to Parliament via the Department of Health, the Food Standards Agency will help ensure that the consumer is put first in food policy.
