PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
MAGNET KITCHENS DISPUTE (24 February 1998)
Motion Details
That this House expresses its deep concern at the lack of the progress in settling the 18 month long industrial dispute between the management and workers of Magnet Kitchens, during which 350 employees with 24 years' average service in the company were sacked; notes that the management would not meet the four trade unions representing the workers until January this year, despite the efforts of the unions to negotiate a settlement; condemns the company's refusal to reinstate their former employees, sacked while taking part in industrial action wholly within the law; and calls on the company to return to negotiations with the trade unions immediately to ensure that the situation is resolved.
