PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
TEACHERS PAY AWARD (5 February 1998)

Motion Details

That this House supports the statement made on 8th February 1996, whilst in opposition, by the Right honourable Member for Oxford East, when in a Labour Party news release he stated 'The staging of the teachers' and other awards is a deception and an admission of economic failure by the Government'; further notes that in the same bulletin he argued 'It is qui te wrong that patients or schoolchildren should pay the price in cuts for the Government's incompetence'; expresses surprise that in Government he holds a diametrically opposed view now supporting the phasing of the new teachers' pay award; and calls on the Government to meet the pay award in full.
