CONDUCT OF THE LABOUR LEADERSHIP OF LIVERPOOL CITY COUNCIL (3 February 1998)
Motion Details
That this House calls for a full investigation into the conduct of the Labour leadership of Liverpool City Council, who have sought to use public money to secure the election of Labour condidates in the May local government elections; notes that the Leader of the Council, Councillor Frank Prendergast, wrote to all Labour candidates asking them 'If resources were available - and there was one issue within your Ward that you believed the council could undertake to help ensure a victory - what would that one item be?; believes that this party political initiative is unlawful; and calls on the Labour Party to take action to stamp out this abuse and undertake an investigation to ascertain whether this is the first and last occasion such a letter has been sent out to Labour candidates in Liverpool.
