PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
Closure of Occupational Therapy Department at Halifax General Hospital (29 January 1990)
Motion Details
That this House condemns the proposal to close the Occupational Therapy Department at the Halifax General Hospital; agrees with Dr. P. M. Humberstone, the consultant physician who says, 'this would be a retrograde step that would lead to a significant reduction in the quality of care in many departments across the two acute hospitals e.g. acute, geriatrics, rheumatology, general medicine, orthopaedics and general surgery'; deplores the impression given by the district health authority that it is not committed to the occupational service, and has not developed an adequate career and training structure as have neighbouring authorities; and calls upon the Government to properly fund the district health authority to prevent a further deterioration of all services in the National Health Service in Calderdale.
