PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
Prison Ombudsman (26 January 1990)
Motion Details
That this House welcomes the support of the Chief Inspector of Prisons for the establishment of a prison ombudsman; notes the view of Home Office officials that such a post would benefit the prison service but could be uncomfortable for Ministers; is concerned at their advice that the idea should be shelved, at least temporarily; and hopes that the Home Secretary will accept that his discomfort is a small price to pay for greatly enhancing prisoners' rights and that he will make a speedy appointment.
