FOREIGN SECRETARY'S VISIT TO MIDDLE EAST (16 March 1998)
Motion Details
That this House gives its full support to the efforts currently being made by the Foreign Secretary on behalf of the EU to restore momentum to the Oslo Peace Process based on the principle of land for peace and Security Council Resolution 242; welcomes the speech made in London on 5th March detailing six concrete steps that need to be taken by the parties to the conflict to move the peace process forward including substantial, credible and urgent further redeployment of Israeli troops from the West Bank and the need for the PNA to make a 100 per cent. effort on precise security commitments; also supports the EU's decision to renew the EU's financial assistance to the peace process which would otherwise expire in 1998; and gives its full support to the Foreign Secretary in his current comprehensive tour of the region and particularly for his decision to visit the illegal settlement at Jabal Abu Ghneim as a demonstration of the British and European opposition to the expansion of Israeli settlements and support for the full implementation of the Oslo Agreement.
