PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
CAPITAL RECEIPTS FROM THE SALE OF COUNCIL HOUSES (22 June 1998)

Motion Details

That this House notes the reported refusal of the Minister for London and Construction, the honourable Member for Greenwich and Woolwich, to affirm Labour's manifesto pledge that the proceeds from the sale of council houses will be ploughed into new build or rehabilitation of existing stock and that no decision has been taken on where the remaining ú4 billion of capital receipts are to be spent despite growing evidence of the mounting problems local authorities face in meeting the gap between what they need to spend on their housing stock and what Government allows them to spend; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to honour its promises in full.
