PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
PROTECTION OF DOLPHINS (21 June 1998)
Motion Details
That this House welcomes the decision taken in Europe by member states to ban the use of drift nets by fishing fleets; notes that these nets are responsible for the deaths of thousands of dolphins each year, which are accidentally caught and killed in these nets; acknowledges that a ban on these nets is a positive step towards protecting dolphins by reducing the number of needless deaths; and calls upon the Government to do everything in its power to press for a world-wide ban on drift nets.
