ENERGY-EFFICIENT DOMESTIC APPLIANCES (2 June 1998)

Motion Details

That this House welcomes the Energy Efficiency from Domestic Appliances to 2010 report produced by the Energy Savings Trust; notes with concern that carbon dioxide emissions will increase by 25 per cent from domestic appliances by 2010 unless energy savings are made; urges the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions to implement policy incentives to encourage consumers to buy the most energy-efficient appliances they can afford; calls on the Government to introduce minimum performance legislation to ensure manufacturers apply new technology to their products, together with accurate energy performance labelling; and further calls on the Government to guarantee that energy efficiency is central to achieving the 20 per cent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by 2010.
