PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
MODERNISING LOCAL GOVERNMENT (31 May 1998)

Motion Details

That this House welcomes the Government's agenda to modernise local government and the commitment by both central and local government to work in partnership to renew local democracy and foster active citizenship; acknowledges the progress already made by local authorities in encouraging greater public participation in their decision making process and how they are continuing to develop new mechanisms for participatory democracy; and supports the Local Government Association's 'Local Democracy Week' which aims to spread good practice amongst authorities and to highlight that local government is open and responsive to the views of their electorate.
