PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
CONDUCT OF THE RIGHT HONOURABLE MEMBER FOR BROMLEY AND CHISLEHURST AND PRIVATE MEMBERS BILLS (20 May 1998)
Motion Details
That this House condemns the obstructive actions of the Right honourable Member for Bromley and Chislehurst in preventing progress on the Energy Efficiency Bill and the Private Hire Vehicles (London) Bill; notes that since this act of parliamentary objection, the industry representatives of both industries affected, namely the Council of Mortgage Lenders and the London Private Hire Car Association, have written to the Right honourable Member asking him to allow the bills affecting their industry to become law; notes that the Council of Mortgage Lenders has told the Right honourable Member that the Energy Efficiency Bill is sensible way forward and should have made progress; further notes that the London Private Hire Car Association have told him that the Private Hire Vehicles (London) Bill should become law in the interests of the safety of the people of London; and therefore believes that the Conservative Party's claims to be a supporter of industry will be severely damaged if the Right honourable Member for Bromley and Chislehurst continues to ignore the advice of these bodies and blocks these bills again when they return to the House on 3rd July.
