PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
CLEANER FUELS (10 May 1998)
Motion Details
That this House notes that the greater use of clean fuels, such as liquified petroleum gas, compressed gas and electricity, in vehicles can offer vital reductions in emissions of both harmful pollutants and global warming gases; believes that the use of such fuels is better for the environment and health as well as offering economic benefits; welcomes the moves in the recent Budget to encourage their use and the decision by the Government Car Service to convert a large section of their fleet to clean fuels; urges Her Majesty's Government to incorporate fully the benefits provided by clean fuels in the National Air Quality Strategy, the UK's Climate Change Policy and the Integrated Transport White Paper; and encourages honourable Members to visit the exhibition in the Upper Waiting Hall from 11th to 15th May which highlights the important work being undertaken by the Energy Saving Trust's Powershift Programme to promote the use of clean fuels by businesses, local authorities and the general public.
