PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
REGISTRATION OF THOSE WORKING WITH CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE (27 April 1998)
Motion Details
That this House notes continuing public concern about the need for high quality, affordable and accessible childcare and the Government's intention to produce a national childcare strategy; believes that a national registration scheme for people who work with children and young people is essential to give parents confidence and security and to exclude unsuitable individuals from the work so that care and education are provided by people who are competent and who put the welfare of children and young people first; believes such a register would benefit those who are registered, their employers, parents and children and young people; and calls on the Her Majesty's Government to initiate discussions with organisations such as Playpen, the Pre-School Learning Alliance and the Institute of Childcare and Social Education with a view to establishing a register as part of the national childcare strategy.
