GENERAL AUGUSTO PINOCHET (19 October 1998)

leave out from 'welcomes' to end and add 'the economic progress which began in Chile 25 years ago, and more recently, the peaceful return to democracy, both of which have been a model of their kind; expresses its appreciation of the excellent relations which have always existed between Chile and the United Kingdom; regrets that Her Majesty's Government has allowed a preliminary legal process between certain Spanish judicial authorities not relating to matters within British legal jurisdiction to be pursued in Britain; and urges Her Majesty's Government to accede to the Chilean Government's request that Senator Pinochet be returned to Chile when he is medically fit to travel so that the Spanish judiciary may complete its legal processes in the relevant country, namely Chile.'.
