PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
SHELTERED HOUSING (21 July 1998)

That this House supports all elderly residents living in sheltered housing, in particular those leaseholders and tenants living in privately controlled developments who do not come within the jurisdiction of the Independent Housing Ombudsman Service, except on a voluntary basis via their management agents who may or may not collect the voluntary subscription; believes it is unjust that approximately 100,000 elderly people in private sheltered housing have to rely on the goodwill of their managing agents to arrange for voluntary contributions to be forwarded to the IHOS; and calls upon the Government to bring forward amendments to the Housing Act 1996 to compel all sheltered housing and similar developments to come under the jurisdiction of the IHOS.
