PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
SOCIAL HOUSING IN LONDON AND THE SOUTH EAST (20 July 1998)
Motion Details
That this House notes moves by the London and South East Region Planning Conference to cut the housing target for homes needed in the social rented sector in the South East by some 200,000; is concerned that SERPLAN's given reason is that single people on low incomes in the South East are unlikely to be able to find housing in the commercial market or in the social rented sector and can therefore be discounted; recognises that social housing is allocated to people with a local connection which is vital to the local economy; is concerned that these proposals may set a precedent in the planning system; asks the Government to review whether the changes it envisages to the system of planning for housing will adversely affect local people in housing need; and calls on the Government to ensure that the required social housing is built.
