PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
LABOUR AND JOURNALISTIC ENTRAPMENT (No. 2) (8 July 1998)
Motion Details
That this House notes that in 1994 106 Labour honourable Members (including 23 current Ministers) signed Early Day Motion 1389, regretting Central TV's decison to force The Cook Programme to abandon further entrapment exercises, declaring it was 'imperative that honourable Members be aware of the way Ian Greer Associates claims access to Ministers and their PPSs'; recollects long-standing worries in the House about the way Parliamentary lobbyists operate; further notes that Sir Gordon Downey's Inquiry found no evidence to substantiate David Hencke and The Guardian's cash for questions allegations against Ian Greer Associates, which provided the spurious justification for The Cook Programme's deceptions; considers it poetic justice that the Frankenstein of sleaze is now consuming the Labour Party which did so much in the last Parliament to create it; and urges Labour honourable Members who signed Early Day Motion 1389 to be consistent and publicly condemn those now mired in New Labour sleaze.
