PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
BRITAIN'S TELEWORKING INDUSTRY (6 December 1995)

That this House notes the view of Richard Nissen, founder of the Virtual Office company, that Britain's teleworking industry is in dire danger with the potential loss abroad of 200,000 jobs a year; notes that Inland Revenue regulations class teleworkers as employees and tax them under PAYE in contrast to regulations in other European countries where teleworkers offset expenses against profits as self-employed people; believes there are significant environmental and social advantages in encouraging teleworking; and urges the Government to undertake a full review of tax regulations relating to teleworking with a view to ensuring that British teleworkers remain competitive in the world market.
