PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
CHILD ABUSE AND THE COURTS (21 February 1996)
Motion Details
That this House calls on the Government to implement in full Judge Pigot's Report on the giving of evidence by children; further believes that despite some progress, the archaic and unsympathetic system of dealing with vulnerable children who have been abused gives justice neither to the child nor the alleged abuser; and calls on alleged cases of child abuse to be dealt with urgently by the legal system so that children can receive early counselling, thus preventing tragedies such as that of the brave Declan Curran who took his own life as a result of the inexcusable delay in his case being brought to court.
