PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
PALESTINIAN ELECTIONS (25 January 1996)

Motion Details

That this House warmly congratulates the Palestinian people on the success of the first national elections for the President and members of the Palestinian Council; congratulates President Arafat on his election; welcomes the statement of the joint heads of the international observer delegations that the election 'can reasonably be regarded as an accurate expression of the will of the voters'; pays tribute to the hard work and dedications of all those and particularly the EU Electoral Unit that organised and observed the elections and ensured such a successful outcome; and hopes that it will contribute to a peaceful and comprehensive resolutions of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, including a settlement that recognises the importance of Jerusalem to both communities and the world and which can be the basis of future mutual respect and prosperity for the two nations.
