PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
VIDEO RELEASE OF "NATURAL BORN KILLERS" (18 March 1996)
Motion Details
That this House reaffirms its commitment, stated in the Criminal Justice Act 1994, to the protection of children and other vulnerable viewers from gratuitously violent videos; notes the statutory duty placed on the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) to have a special regard when approving films for video release to any harm that may be caused to such viewers by videos dealing with criminal, violent or horrific behaviour; is appalled that the BBFC have ignored the wishes of Parliament by classifying the grossly violent film Natural Born Killers for video release without cuts; and calls on the BBFC to reconsider its decision, on Warner Brothers to stop the release of the video and on the Government to investigate if the BBFC are in breach of their statutory responsibilities.
