PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
MILLENNIUM EXHIBITION (28 February 1996)

Motion Details

That this House warmly welcomes the decision by the Millennium Commission to stage the Millennium Exhibition on the Prime Meridian in Greenwich; believes this is an ideal location given Greenwich's historic association with time; recognises and welcomes the potential for job creation and economic regeneration in one of the most depressed areas of the country; congratulates the Leader and Deputy Leader of Greenwich Council, Councillor Len Duvall and Councillor Bob Harris for their energy and imagination in bringing the Greenwich bid together and for establishing the Greenwich Millennium Trust led by Sir Bob Scott; thanks other key partners including the Woolwich Building Society, Greenwich University, the National Maritime Museum, the Waterfront Partnership and the many community groups involved; and recognising that whilst the Greenwich Millennium Exhibition will be the focus for the celebration, hopes that funding will also be provided for regional and local celebrations throughout the country.
