PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
DAY CENTRES FOR HOMELESS AND VULNERABLE PEOPLE (26 February 1996)

Motion Details

That this House notes the value of day centres for homeless and vulnerable people in overcoming isolation, improving their quality of life and increasing the likelihood of their being able to obtain accommodation and employment, as set out in the report Saving the Day; draws attention to the fact that, while sources of statutory funding exist for some of the more specialised services they offer, parallel recognition has not so far been given to the open-door welcome and basic services they provide; encourages the relevant statutory authorities to work in partnership with day centres with a view to creating an effective, comprehensive and cost-effective safety net for those in need; and calls upon the Government to consider how the provision of such services can be ensured throughout the United Kingdom wherever justified by the level of unmet need and how they can be more securely supported.
