PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
BSE AND COWHEAD DE-BONING COMPANIES (30 June 1996)

Motion Details

That this House notes the devastating effect of the BSE crisis on the companies engaged in the specialist business of cowhead deboning; notes that most of these companies are small family-owned businesses whose proprietors recently incurred heavy expenditure in order to comply with stringent standards uniquely referable to head deboning imposed by the United Kingdom and European Union; observes that the Specified Bovine Material Order (Head Meat) 1996 banned the sale of head meat, putting the companies out of business and their proprietors at risk of bankruptcy; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to discuss a scheme of compensation with the head deboning companies.
