PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
BLOCKADE AGAINST CUBA (6 December 1994)
Motion Details
That this House welcomes the United Nations General Assembly's reaffirmation on 26th October 1994 of the necessity of ending the United States of America's financial and commercial blockade against Cuba by 101 votes to 2 with 48 abstentions, including the United Kingdom Government, which represents an even greater degree of support for Cuba's right to national sovereignty than the two previous years' resolutions on the same topic; requests the United Kingdom Government to urge the United States of America to comply fully with the United Nations resolution by ending its blockade and normalising its economic and diplomatic relations with Cuba; and, while welcoming the recent government-led trade delegation to Cuba, calls upon Her Majesty's Government to take further steps actively to promote trade and aid programmes with Cuba, both domestically and within the European Union.
