PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
PROPOSED DEPORTATION OF IMTIAZ BEGUM (23 November 1994)
Motion Details
That this House declares that Imtiaz Begum should not be deported from the United Kingdom; calls attention to the all-Party support given to Imtiaz Begum and her family in Preston through unanimous decision of the borough council; notes that because of head injuries in an accident, Imtiaz cannot walk unaided or look after herself and is being looked after by her brother and his wife and her parents, all of whom live in Preston and are British citizens, notes that her brother, a bus driver, has borne all costs including neurosurgery; further notes that she has no relatives in Pakistan (her husband having abandoned her because of her injuries, and left Pakistan) so she would be along and helpless; points out that her family simply could not eject her and send her to her death; and asks the Home Secretary to revoke the decision in principle, and not to sign a deportation order.
