PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
ENVIRONMENTAL CLAIMS (16 November 1994)
Motion Details
That this House welcomes the Environmental Claims Bill introduced into the last Session of Parliament by a cross-party group of honourable Members; notes that the Bill extends the Trade Descriptions Act to environmental claims regarding goods and services offered for sale; that it will give the Secretary of State the power to make Orders defining environmental terms; and that it will require any person making such a claim to keep a file of evidence to support the claim; is encouraged that the Bill is supported in principle by the British Retail Consortium and the Institute of Trading Standards Administrators; and is further heartened by the supportive comments about such legislation made by the Secretary of State for the Environment to the Environment Select Committee in June 1994; and therefore hopes that the House will find time to pass such a Bill in this Session.
