PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
Sale of Westminster Cemeteries (16 February 1990)
Motion Details
That this House notes the publication of the District Auditor's report on Westminster's three former cemeteries at Mill Hill, East Finchley and Hanwell, sold in January 1987 for 15p; further notes that the Auditor found the cemetery sales to be unlawful, unauthorised and to the detriment of ratepayers; believes that total responsibility for this whole scandalous affair rests with the Tory leader of Westminster Council, Lady Shirley Porter, whose arrogant behaviour makes her unfit to hold public office; and calls for her immediate resignation, the re-acquisition of the cemeteries by compulsory purchase and a ministerial enquiry into the affairs of Tory-run Westminster Council.
