PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
CROSS BORDER SMUGGLING (24 January 1995)
Motion Details
That this House believes that the continuing and growing problem of tobacco and alcohol smuggling from the continent po ses grave dangers to the United Kingdom including damage to government revenues, damage to legitimate business as well as dangers arising from the unregulated nature of this trade and the increase in criminality; and believes that one concrete step that the Government can take in the short term to combat this trade is to deploy sufficient staff resources within Customs and Excise for the detection and prosecution of illegal personal imports as recommended by the all party Treasury and Civil Service Committee in November 1994.
