PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
QUEENS UNIVERSITY BELFAST AND THE NATIONAL ANTHEM (11 January 1995)

Motion Details

That this House condemns the action of the senate of Queen's University, Belfast in banning the playing of the National Anthem at graduation ceremonies; believes the banning of this long established tradition displays a total disrepect for the views of most students and the wider community; calls for the decision to be rescinded in view of its partisan, biased and divisive nature; and furthermore rejects the notion that the playing of the National Anthem can be regarded as being detrimental to a neutral working environment, or that graduation ceremonies can be regarded as forming part of the workplace.
