PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
CUTS IN BBC LOCAL RADIO SERVICES (20 February 1995)

Motion Details

That this House notes the BBC proposals for cuts in local radio services in the Coventry and Warwickshire broadcasting area, known as CWR radio; notes with alarm the catastrophic effect these cuts will have on these communities, and the jobs of highly skilled staff employed by CWR; expresses its dismay at the lack of consultation with these communities and its representatives given that these proposed cuts are part of a national programme of reorganisation and cuts; calls on the Secretary of State for National Heritage to intervene, initiate adequate funding and to convene as a matter of urgency, a meeting between the BBC and representatives of CWR and the community in order to seek ways and means of continuing this worthwhile community-based service; and demands the withdrawal of the cuts.
