PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
DISABLED LIVING CENTRES (6 February 1995)

That this House is aware that the disabled living centres which exist in the United Kingdom are unique specialist resource centres which provide valuable impartial, reliable and professional advice about disability equipment and support to disabled people and professionals working with them; is alarmed that at present a number of these centres face a persistent threat of closure or substantial contraction in their services because of reductions in funding or other resources by statutory and other authorities; believes a wider recognition of the existence and importance of disability equipment and the role of disabled living centres in facilitating their use is essential; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to provide more resources to these centres and to encourage local support and recognition of their work, to enable them to help maintain and develop core services for disabled people.
